Why the Sky is Blue

Celestial Serpent

Celestial Serpent

Before the Gods War, the sky was perfect. From his throne, the radiant light of the Emperor colored the sky white and gold. But when Orlanth sent Yelm screaming into hell, the gods fought and died. The world began to tilt and crack. The now-ever-darkening sky tilted to one side. Princess Starry Eyes lived on an island in the Outer Ocean between two great water serpents, Sramak and Lorion. She ordered Sramak to lift one side of the tilting sky and then she ordered Lorion into the sky through the gap. Lorion and his army rushed into the sunless golden fields of their enemies, flooding them and killing many gods and people. Lorion and his serpents took many lands and cities from the sky people, and Lorion took for himself a new name: the Sky River Titan. The Celestial Water Serpent remained in the sky and the sky was forever tinted blue by the sky river’s undulating waters. Today, even Yelm must acknowledge this.

Lorion fought many battles with his beloved friend, Heler, and when Heler swore themself to Orlanth, Lorion also joined the tribe. Lorion always shares his water with Heler, and from them comes the rain.
